Shoreline Stewardship

The goal of FRIENDS Shoreline Stewardship Program is to inform San Juan County shoreline property owners and land use professionals about the biological importance of local resources, improve management at priority sites and increase compliance with existing shoreline protection policies.

Eelgrass Protection Program

FRIENDS of the San Juans is working to reduce boating impacts to eelgrass habitats through education and on-the-ground restoration.

Workshops and Events

FRIENDS hosts multiple workshops and events each year to provide important scientific and policy information to a wide range of audiences including property owners, teachers, realtors, contractors, land managers and the general public with the goal of increasing stewardship awareness and action by all SJC residents.

Tribal Partnerships to Protect our Shared Waters

FRIENDS works to facilitate cultural ties and increase tribal participation in the management and protection of natural resources in San Juan County and the region.

The Samish Indian Nation, Lummi Nation, Swinomish Indian Tribal Community and the Tulalip Tribes are active partners in the implementation of many FRIENDS programs.

Anti-Litter Program

Pollution of our oceans by marine debris is one of the fastest growing environmental problems. To help clean up local beaches and waters, FRIENDS of the San Juans'

debris removal programs include beach cleanups, a boat-based marine refuse program and participation in the San Juan Anti-Litter Initiative.
