marilyn ellis endowment

The Marilyn Ellis Endowment Fund was established in 2000 to honor the memory of San Juan County Conservationist Marilyn S. Ellis.

Marilyn Ellis was a resident of the San Juans for more than 50 years. Marilyn and her husband Fred Ellis, accumulated the series of contiguous parcels of land on Shaw Island which now form the University of Washington's 579-acre Frederick and Marilyn Ellis Biological Preserve. The Preserve, dedicated in May 2002, comprises the single largest gift of land in the Islands for conservation purposes since Robert Moran gave the State Park that now bears his name.

Fred and Marilyn Ellis were founding members of FRIENDS of the San Juans. It has always been important to them to protect the islands' beauty and the diversity of marine, bird, and animal life for future generations,

The Endowment was created to celebrate Marilyn Ellis' life by providing long-term financial support for FRIENDS' efforts, with the interest on the Endowment's investments being used to help fund FRIENDS' programs for marine research, land use management, orca protection, and shoreline stewardship.

Donations to the Marilyn Ellis Endowment Fund may be in the form of cash, check, stock, property, or through a bequest.

Donations may be made to honor individuals special to the donor, through a memorial or tribute gift to the Endowment Fund. Such gifts will be designated as memorials or tributes to the person whose memory or presence is special to the donor.

Call FRIENDS at 360- 378-2319 for further information on donating to the endowment.
